Product details
Product Description – Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4)
Chemical Formula: H2SO4
Chemical Name: Sulfuric Acid; Hydro sulfate
Origin: Vietnam, South Korea
Density: 1.84 g/cm³
Packaging: Plastic cans 45 kg, drums 200 L, tanks 1000 L
Physical Properties:
Sulfuric acid is a strong inorganic acid with the chemical formula H2SO4. It appears as a colorless, oily liquid, odorless, non-volatile, and nearly twice as dense as water (H2SO4 98% has a density of 1.84 g/cm³). It is completely soluble in water, releasing significant heat during dilution. It is highly corrosive and a strong oxidizing agent.

Industrial Applications of Sulfuric Acid

- Metal production: Used in the production of copper, zinc, and for cleaning steel surfaces and rust removal.
- Alum and sulfate salts production: Used in producing aluminum sulfate (e.g., for paper production), various sulfate salts, and cleaning metals before plating.
- Chemical manufacturing: Production of explosives, plastics, dyes, and pharmaceuticals.
- Batteries: Acid-water mixtures are used as electrolytes in lead-acid batteries.
- Wastewater treatment: Balances pH and removes Mg²⁺ and Ca²⁺ ions from wastewater.
Safety Precautions
Sulfuric acid is a highly dangerous chemical:
- Contact with skin can cause severe burns; contact with eyes may cause blindness.
- It can burn paper, fabric, and other materials.
- Heating sulfuric acid releases SO₂ and SO₃ gases, which are highly irritating to the respiratory system and hazardous to health.
Handling & Storage Guidelines:
- Always wear full personal protective equipment: gloves, chemical-resistant goggles, mask or respirator, and protective clothing.
- Store and handle in fume hoods made of composite materials or stainless steel.
- Never add water to concentrated acid; always add acid slowly to water to prevent violent reactions and splattering.
- Avoid using glass containers for mixing due to thermal and chemical reactions.
